Call to Rabun County Commissioners to Reduce Taxes 3/01/2010
It seems that the Rabun County Clerk and Chief Financial Officer really wants to save our elected commissioners some time. She has proposed that this year – instead of our elected commissioners having to sit through all those pesky budget hearings – she and the County Administrator will do it for them! Then Ms. Jacobs and Mr. Bleckley will determine what Rabun County’s budget shall be for fiscal year 2011 and submit it to the commissioners for their approval. Our elected officials would then have three weeks to review the budget and set up any meetings they might want to have with the various departments. Ms. Jacobs is also saving the taxpayers a lot of time – now you won’t have to sit through all those meetings to find out where your money is going!
While businesses – you know those folks who employ people -- all over this country – including Rabun County - are having to cut their budgets in an effort to keep their doors open…… none of our county departments were asked to cut their budget by even one percent!! Our elected commissioners were not even asked if they had any instructions for the department heads – at least not all our commissioners were. With the current economic condition of this county – with almost twelve percent unemployment – and that’s just the people who are now receiving unemployment checks – we think it would behoove our elected officials to demand a cut of at least ten percent across the board for every department. After all – a LOT of the people paying those taxes are not working -- and some of them haven’t been able to work for many months. The time is right for the taxpayers to let our commissioners know that we want them to take action to reduce our taxes NOW. Or – are you happy to have Ms. Jacobs doing their job for them?
