'Cats advance to regional semifinals, Girls Play tonight

The Region 8AA Boys basketball tournament began last night for the Rabun County Wildcats, after a first round bye.

The ‘Cats faced #3 seed Hart County, a team they lost to earlier in the season. Defense proved to be the deciding factor, as Rabun County held the Bulldogs to just 49 points, while putting up 59 of their own.

Dillon Bleckley was the games leading scorer with 21 points.

The Wildcats will face Jefferson County tomorrow in the semifinals. In their regular season meeting, the ‘Cats won 70-55.

Rabun County Lady Wildcats will square off against Hart County in their first playoff game tonight at 5:30 in Hart County.

In other basketball news last night, the Atlanta Hawks beat the Phoenix Suns last night 101-99 on the shoulders of Josh Smith’s season high 30 points. Meanwhile the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fell to Wake Forest last night 59-50 and the Georgia Bulldogs dropped one to South Carolina in a close game. That score was 57-56.

Region Tournament to begin this week

The Rabun County Wildcats and Lady Cats will both receive first round byes for the region 8AA Basketball Tournament.

The tournament began yesterday at East Hall, and will continue through the week.

The Boys kick things off against the Winner of Fannin and Hart County on Wednesday at East Hall.

The Lady Cats will play the winner of the Fannin/Hart County game as well, on Thursday.

Both games are at 5:30 on their respective days. The semifinals and finals will be held in Hart County.
